Puppy Vaccinations

Create a personalized vaccination schedule to protect your dog against preventable diseases.

Our doctors are passionate about taking a preventive approach when it comes to canine health. With proper diets, regular check-ups and vaccines. We can help prevent many health problems this way and ensure a long healthy life for your dog. Routine vaccines for puppies typically start at 8 weeks old, with boosters at 12 weeks and 16 weeks. Depending on the risk factors, some will need boosters at 19 weeks and 22 weeks as well.

Why is it important to properly vaccinate your puppy?

It is important to vaccinate your puppy to build his/her immune system. Puppies are very susceptible to common diseases such as parvovirus, rabies, distemper etc. With an immature immune system, they are at a high risk for these diseases, some of which can be fatal. Our protocol is to vaccinate appropriately to boost the immune system to ward off these diseases. Our veterinarians will assess your dog’s risk factors and suggest a personalized vaccine schedule for your puppy.

What is an appropriate schedule for puppy vaccinations?

Puppies should start vaccinations at 8 weeks of age. These vaccines are followed by boosters at 12, and 16 weeks depending on the vaccines and risks of each puppy. Some vaccinations will require visits at 19 and 22 weeks of age as well.

How should you prepare your puppy for its first vaccination visit?

Preparing your puppy for the first vaccinations is pretty simple. Puppies are very resilient to the poke of a needle, and often don’t even know it has happened. You can bring along some of your puppy’s favourite treat or kibble to use as a distraction. Staying calm and positive will ensure your puppy has a positive experience at the vet and will continue to enjoy his/her visits. Lots of praise and “good dog” goes a long way in making vet visits something for them to look forward too. Having the puppy fasted and hungry will ensure he/ she is focused more on the food than the needle and make for a more positive memory.

How much do puppy vaccinations cost?

The cost of puppy vaccinations varies depending on your puppy’s lifestyle risk factors. The best way to get an estimated cost on your puppy’s vaccine series is to consult with one of our knowledgeable veterinarians about what is best for your pup.
